Le lieu ét nant LEMUSÉE ALBERT- KAHN RÉINVENTÉ A près cinq années de rénovation orchestrées par l’architecte ja- ponais Kengo Kuma, le musée Albert-Kahn rouvre ses portes au public, à Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine). Un nouvel écrin pour révéler la richesse des collections de ce banquier et humaniste (1860- 1940), lancé dans un projet fou : dresser un « inventaire photographique de la surface du globe» au XX e siècle. Les Archives de la Planète sont créées en 1909 : des photographes sillonnent le monde récoltant des milliers de clichés et des centaines d’heures de film. C’est sur cette propriété, abri- tant l’hôtel particulier et les fondations du philanthrope, qu’une première version du musée fut bâtie en 1986. Préservée, la galerie fondée en 1990 semble aujourd’hui bien modeste sous son élégant toit incurvé. Autour, Kengo Kuma a conçu un bâtiment tout en lames de bois clair, bambou et métal, tissant un habile dialogue entre le musée et le jardin cher à Albert Kahn. Pour ce faire, le créateur du stade olympique de Tokyo s’est inspiré d’un élément des maisons nipponnes : l’engawa, espace de transition entre intérieur et extérieur. THE MUSÉE ALBERT-KAHN REINVENTED F ollowing a five-year renovation orchestrated by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the Musée Albert-Kahn in Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine) has reopened its doors to the public. The new space reveals the collections of banker and humanist Albert Khan (1860-1940), whose ambition was to create a “photographic inventory of the surface of the globe” in the 20 th century. The Archives of the Planet was created in 1909, for which photographers travelled theworld to collect thousands of photographs and hundreds of hours of film. It was on thisproperty, housing thephilanthropist’smansionand foundations, that a first version of the museum was built in 1986.
