LE PALAIS D’ANTIN LE RENOUVEAU DE LA ROTONDE L’aile ouest du Grand Palais, le Palais d’Antin, abrite le Palais de la découverte, qui bénéficie d’une refonte totale de ses espaces. Chef-d’œuvre architectural, sa célèbre rotonde a retrouvé son éclat originel. « Ses décors sculptés et son plafond verrier doré à la feuille d’or ont été remis en valeur » , explique Daniel Sancho, qui souligne que cet espace va rester vide, offrant ainsi une connexion fluide entre la Place centrale, la nef et les nouvelles galeries du Palais d’Antin. Par ailleurs, la rotonde devient un espace public accessible gratuitement. L’occasion d’admirer la sublime mosaïque en grès cérame et verres-dalles, libérée des aménagements (accueil, billetterie, vestiaires) qui la masquaient jusque-là. RENOVATION OF THE ROTUNDA The west wing of Grand Palais, called the Palais d’Antin, houses the Palais de la Découverte, which is currently undergoing an ambitious transformation. The famous rotunda has been restored to its original splendour. “ Its carved decorations and gilded glass ceiling have been brought back to life ”, says Daniel Sancho, who emphasises that the rotunda will allow a fluid passageway. The Salon Seine is now a free public space where the mosaic porcelain stoneware and glass tiles can be admired, without the facilities that used to obscure them.

LE HALL ET LA PLACE CENTRALE LE CŒUR VIBRANT DU GRAND PALAIS Symbole de fluidité et d’ouverture, la nouvelle Place centrale est « le pivot du Grand Palais rénové », selon Daniel Sancho, le directeur du projet de restauration. Elle a été décloisonnée pour restituer les vastes perspectives originelles du bâtiment et lui rendre sa fluidité et la lumière naturelle dont il jouissait à l’époque. De la même façon, le hall d’accueil a été repensé. Il compte désormais une entrée unique – qui permet au visiteur de voir l’ensemble du palais – via le square Jean-Perrin, côté Champs-Élysées. Plus vaste et lui aussi plus lumineux, il a également été décloisonné pour améliorer la circulation.

THE BEATING HEART OF THE GRAND PALAIS

As a symbol of fluidity and openness, the new central square is the beating heart of the renovated Grand Palais, according to Daniel Sancho, the project director. Designed to recreate the structure’s original wide perspectives, it provides a transparent link between the central nave and the Palais de la Découverte. The square links two spaces, respectively managed by the RMN (Réunion des musées nationaux) and by Universience. The larger and brighter reception area has been completely redesigned and now has a single entrance from Place Jean-Perrin to ensure a smooth flow of visitors.
