This very Parisian arrondissement has plenty of secret enclaves, hid den courtyards and small museums that Stéphane loves. In particular, the Musée de la Vie Romantique 3 , once the house where George Sand and Frédéric Chopin lived. There's also the Musée Gus tave-Moreau 4 , the symbolist painter’s former home and studio, now an intimate museum, full of works by the master. “In the 19th century, this area, known as La Nou velle Athènes, was populated by art ists and had a romantic-erotic atmosphere that is still very much alive today” , he says. Stéphane likes to stroll along the slope of the Rue des Martyrs, where his two favour ite bookshops, L'Atelier 9 5 and Vendredi carry a great selection of the books he regularly stocks up on before leaving on holiday. For a break from his busy week, Stéphane heads to the Hôtel Amour 6 . “This is one of the most charming hotels in Paris with a courtyard gar den. To make the most of it, go at dif ferent times, for example for a late lunch on a weekday since they offer non-stop service!” For sweet treats, Stéphane knows all the right places, such as Komorebi 7 , a patisserie and tea room owned by a Mexi can-Japanese couple. Try their mat cha flan, orange or black sesame cake, or enjoy savoury vegetable tarts and daily bentos in this small, convivial place. Another one of

Cet arrondissement de Paris regorge de coins secrets, de cours cachées, de petits musées que Stéphane affectionne. En particulier le musée de la Vie romantique 3 , aménagé dans la maison où vécurent George Sand et Frédéric Chopin. Il y a aussi le musée Gustave-Moreau 4 , ancien atelier du peintre symboliste. Ce lieu très intime, rempli d’œuvres du maître, est resté intact. « Au XIX e siècle, ce coin que l’on appe lait La Nouvelle Athènes était fré quenté par des artistes. Il y régnait une atmosphère romantique-éro tique qui perdure un peu encore aujourd’hui » , ajoute cet amateur de culture. Stéphane aime flâner sur les pentes de la rue des Martyrs où se trouvent ses deux librairies favorites, L’Atelier 9 5 ou Vendredi, qui proposent toujours

de bonnes sélections de livres dont il fait le plein avant de partir en vacances. Pour faire une pause au cours d’une semaine chargée, il se rend à l’Hôtel Amour 6 . « Cet établissement hôtelier est l’un des plus charmants de Paris, avec sa cour jardin. Pour mieux en profiter, il faut y aller en horaires décalés, déjeuner tard en semaine par exemple. C’est possible car le service se fait en continu ! » Question gourmandises, son pen chant pour les gâteaux le conduit chez Komoredi 7 , une pâtisserie- salon de thé hybride, tenue par un couple mexicano-japonais. « Flan au matcha, cake à l’orange ou au sésame noir, tout est délicieux ici. En plus de l’offre sucrée, on peut y déguster des bentos du jour dans une petite salle conviviale. » Une autre adresse délicieuse qui a la

games are happening at the Duperré 1 playground, a former car park that Stéphane and his friends from the association Pigalle Jeunesse et Sport have transformed and painted in bright colours. Immersed in the final preparations for the Olympic Games, the designer of the team uniforms has less time to devote to his association, although he sometimes manages to escape from work to shoot a few hoops on the court. Stéphane is particularly fond of the Jacques-Bravo Centre 2 , a lively, multicultural space for dance, sports and theatre. “I love this dual-faceted neighbourhood that’s reflected in my designs, it's both casual and chic.”

faveur de Stéphane, c’est le restau rant chinois Phoenix 8 , du côté de l’église Notre-Dame-de-Lorette. La devanture ne paie pas de mine et l’intérieur a la simplicité d’une can tine. Mais c’est la cuisine authen tique, avec de grands plats à partager comme le bœuf aux piments et légumes, qui ravit la clientèle d’habitués asiatiques. « La richesse du 9 e , c’est cette mixité sociale et ethnique. Moi qui ai une mère yougoslave et un père anglais, ce mélange me plaît beaucoup, à l’instar des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de Paris 2024, qui vont réunir dans la capitale les ath lètes du monde entier ! » , conclut l’enfant du quartier devenu grand. ◆

Stéphane's favourite eateries is the Chinese restaurant Phoenix 8 , next to the church of Notre-Dame de-Lorette. “Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, and the interior has the simplicity of a café, it serves delicious authentic cuisine and great dishes to share, such as beef with chillis and vegetables” , says Stéphan. “The charm of Paris, espe cially in the 9th arrondissement, is a result of the social and ethnic mix. As the son of a Yugoslavian mother and an English father, I really enjoy this mix. The upcoming Paris 2024 Olym pic and Paralympic Games will bring athletes to Paris from all over the world and I’ll have the honour of designing their uniforms!” ◆
