JOHN SINGER SARGENT, ÉBLOUIR PARIS MUSÉE D’ORSAY Adulé aux États-Unis, célébré en Angleterre, John Singer Sargent, l’un des plus grands portraitistes de la fin du XIX e siècle, reste méconnu en France. Pourtant, c’est dans un Paris bouillonnant que le jeune Américain affina une virtuosité magnifiée par des compositions à l’assurance provocante. Cette première exposition monographique retrace, en 90 toiles, l’ascension dans la Ville lumière de ce digne héritier de Vélasquez, brillant chroniqueur d’une société en pleine mutation à l’âge nouveau du cosmopolitisme.
