CLÉMENTINE DEROUDILLE Le 12 e arrondissement de

C lémentine had rarely set foot in the 12th before mo ving there five years ago. “ I used to live in Montmartre and would go out in Menilmontant” , she says on a sun ny afternoon, sitting on the terrace of Le Mistrinquett bistro (7 Rue du Rendez-Vous). “ My grandfather Robert Doisneau would have loved this street, with its 1980s and 1990s Parisian feel. He would have had great fun capturing the people and their daily lives ” . When she talks about the 12th, the word that comes up most often is “ gentleness”. “ The low-rise buildings here convey the feeling of a neighbourhood on a human scale. It’s a gentle neighbourhood with a gentle way of life. In the 12th, you can really see the sky, a rarity in Paris ”. A NEIGHBOURHOOD WITH A VILLAGE FEEL Clémentine’s 12th begins on the Rue du Rendez-Vous. “ This is Paris, but with a provincial feel. We all know each other and take our time. The atmosphere is friendly and village-like and the bells of the Immaculate Conception church ring every hour! ” Clémentine’s favourite bookshop, Les Champs Magnétiques (at no. 80), hosts literary evenings and readings. “ But the incredible food is really what makes these streets a great discovery, like the delicious tarama at Terre de Crète (at no. 17), the excellent Thai cuisine at Tamarin (at no. 2), and the cookies and chocolates from Julien Dechenaud (at no. 16). Nearby, the mezze at Cuisi’Nad (69 Avenue du Dr Arnold Netter) and pizzas at the down-to-earth Italian restaurant THE 12TH ARRONDISSEMENT WITH CLÉMENTINE DEROUDILLE Granddaughter of the photographer Robert Doisneau, this journalist and curator guides us through a little-known part of the capital she wouldn’t leave for the world.

L e 12 e arrondissement, Clémentine Deroudille n’y avait jamais mis les pieds avant de s’y ins taller il y a cinq ans. « Je vivais à Montmartre et je sortais plutôt vers Ménilmontant , confie t-elle dans un rire, attablée par un après-midi ensoleillé à la terrasse du Mistrinquett (7, rue du Rendez Vous), sympathique bistrot situé au pied de l’immeuble où elle vit. Aujourd’hui, je n’imaginerais pas vivre ailleurs ! Je suis sûre que mon grand-père Robert Doisneau aurait adoré cette rue, avec ses allures de Paris des années 1980 et 1990. Il se serait bien amusé à y capter les gens et leur quotidien. » Quand elle parle de son environnement, le mot qui revient le plus, c’est la douceur. « C’est un quartier doux. L’architecture n’est pas étrangère à cette douceur de vivre. Ici, les bâtiments font trois ou quatre étages, pas plus, ce qui donne cette sensation d’habiter à hauteur d’homme. Dans mon 12 e , on voit le ciel, ce qui est rare à Paris ! » UN QUARTIER AUX AIRS DE VILLAGE Son 12 e commence rue du Rendez-Vous. « Ici, on est à Paris, mais on se sent comme en province. On se connaît, on se salue, on prend le temps… L’ambiance est familiale, “vil lage” : les cloches de l’église de l’Immaculée Conception sonnent même chaque heure ! » Clémentine cite sa librairie préférée, Les Champs magnétiques (au 80), où se tiennent lectures et apéros littéraires. « Mais ce qu’il faut
