A constant, radiant beauty, an eternally graceful muse, a reassuring presence- the moon has forever fascinated and inspired Earth’s poets, artists, and scientists. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 space mission – during which the first human being set foot on the moon – the Grand Palais presents a contemplative, dream-like exhibition revealing the innumerable ways in which the Moon has been represented in all its many facets through the ages. From Antiquity to the present, from the real to the imaginary, and across all the continents, the show includes artworks by the likes of Chagall, Miró, and Rodin, as well as fascinating objects and scientific equipment which revealing our celestial neighbor’s power of attraction for us. The exhibition showcases Galileo’s telescope, François Morellet’s neons, and Jean-François Millet’s moon paintings alongside representations of Mesopotamian and Egyptian deities.
