STYLISH SKATE PARK Damaged by skateboards, BMX bikes, and rollerblades, the old skate park at Porte d’Italie, with its concrete sculpture by Austrian artist Peter Kogler, was nally restored in 2017. The iconic sculptural bowl was sanded and repainted with a black- and-white spiral by Julien Frenzel based on Kogler’s original sketches. Square Robert-Bajac. 1, boulevard A COMELY MARKET Fill your market basket while admiring the work of artists Seth, Pastel FD, Ratur, and Jaw that brightens the walls of the March des Batignolles. The artists’ collectively designed fresco, created in 2018, was inspired by childhood, plant life, and the city. March des Batignolles, Paris. 13 Brochant Kellermann, Paris. 7 Maison Blanche 4 This courtyard on the Rue du Temple has taken on myriad colours in a monumental fresco titled UP/SIDE/DOWN/TOWN . CREATIVE GROUND The former Les Halles Gardens have been completely restored and renamed the Nelson Mandela Gardens. The 300-sq-m (3,200-sq-ft) terrain, inaugurated in May 2018, now hosts a playground designed by Romain Froquet in a mix of ethnic and urban aesthetics. The dominant colour blue symbolises a piece of the sky torn asunder by brilliant yellows, warming this playful space. Jardin Nelson-Mandela, 32, rue Berger, Paris. 4 Les Halles INVADER XXL After the works of Obey and Jef Aerosol, the walls of Place Igor-Stravinsky have featured a giant mosaic by Invader since November. This is Franck Slama’s (the artist’s real name) largest fresco to date: 9m x 7m (30ft x 23ft), with 447 black, red, and white mosaic tiles. Place Igor-Stravinsky, 2, rue Brisemiche, Paris. 2
